I like ones that can stack in full/half combos if packing in more than one layer and wanting a couple sizes. Large ones are better for folded shirts and pants and a folder may work better there. Sizes depend more on how you want to break things down, like one for socks and underwear, one for rolled tee shirts, etc. Eagle Creek, Gonex and ebags will all work. It's all about weight and zipper quality in packing cubes, IMHO. None of our cubes (amazon or aliexpress) have broken, if you shop around on aliexpress and buy the ones with best reviews and most orders you should be good. My husband uses the other two slim packs for his socks/ underwear and one large packing cube for his jeans/shirt. I use a 20L backpack so anything more than 2 slim cubes and a small one is too much for my pack. This set up keeps my stuff organized and easy to access, no problems with black holes of confusing wrinkled clothes. I also compress the underwear and socks with rubber bands. I wear mostly silk shirts so they pack pretty easy. The third “small” pack (from the aliexpress set) holds jeans/shorts if I need the extra space. The second slim pack I put my shirts/dress in. These are pretty conveniently small and work great for socks & underwear in one pack. I’m a 5’4” size s-m woman and I use 2 of these Dot & Dot Slim Packing Cubes and I also use maybe 1 “small” size packing cube which came in a set from aliexpress. My friend got 4 same-size skinnier cubes, and that works well for her. This leaves enough room for shoes, flip flops, and toiletries kit, plus some to spare for travel purchases. Small bag is for bras, socks, undies, and pj’s. Large bag holds rolled sweaters, jeans, leggings, dresses, etc. Personally, I stick to one large and one small cube because that’s what fits my bag and my needs.Quality is definitely important since you don’t want a broken zipper or torn side mid-travel. They’re part mesh on the top so I can see what’s inside/breathability, and made incredibly well (I STUFF them). I got my variety set from eBags probably 7+ years ago.Or use them for winter storage, gym bags, organizing your sock/drawers drawer. He mentioned to Pye that he made some smart investments when Arnie complained about the size of Brockman's house. He also has an ongoing feud with traffic reporter Arnie Pye, and has been shown to criticize Pye's reporting indeed, he once chuckled sadistically upon hearing the news that Pye had been killed in an accident. īrockman once won the multi-million-dollar ($130 million) state lottery jackpot and left the news desk while still on the air, but he remained a news anchor because he was under contract, though he also admitted that he likes making $500,000 a year. Kent's first big story was the Great Springfield Tire Yard Fire. He also frequently uses botox, having a saggy face without it. He was also a war correspondent during the Vietnam War, the Soviet war in Afghanistan, and the Gulf War (although, as he just says " Iraq", he could have been referring to the Iran-Iraq War). Despite all of this, he has won a string of media awards, but is most proud of his unspecified trophy from Del Monte. He seems to command excessive levels of power within Channel 6, even having a segment of the news programme to air his own (usually highly reactionary) opinions on current issues called My Two Cents. (As with most Simpsons characters, Brockman's ethics and competence vary according to the needs of the episode.) He has been seen throwing tantrums because he cannot find certain snack foods, and once blithely announced on-the-air that the boom operator on his news program was being fired the next morning (for which he took a clout on the head from the angry soon-to-be-ex-employee). īrockman represents the worst of his profession: frequently judgmental careerist to the point of absurdity and more than willing to film and sensationalize a schmaltzy, emotion driven puff piece for the sake of a few extra ratings points. This turned Kent's hair white, however in another flashback in, Kent is shown with black hair. The guy in the costume took off the head and told him that he was on his break, which meant the mouse was dead. As a child, Kenny Brockelstein was at Disneyland and decided to interview Mickey Mouse. Quentin really loves and trusts actors the few notes he gives are mostly technical: “Don’t turn too far to your left, you’ll be out of frame,” kind of thing. PB: Did you and Tarantino talk about The Gimp’s backstory? I guess we just all knew it and did our jobs. I think everyone concerned felt this would be a memorable scene in what was obviously going to be a great film. It was a fantastic experience for all concerned, and we definitely bonded over the course of the relatively brief shoot. It was a closed set on the days we shot (three total shooting days), and due to the graphic and grim nature of the scene, everyone was all business and focused. And the other actors in the scene were/are amazing - that made being present and diving into the moment incredibly easy. I was the mute and helpless slave of these two guys, and I had no choice in the matter but to do their bidding and be their plaything. SH: It was a pretty intense scene (he understated). PB: Most of your credits are in comedy - there is something comical to the part, but it’s a very intense scene. And as I mentioned above, where we would improvise together on occasion. And, of course, the Groundlings Theater is where I met Quentin. SH: Definitely! The number one rule of improv listening, “being in the moment,” “yes and…” helped me to plunge into and commit to a role that (thankfully!) isn’t like me, at all. PB: Do you think your background with the Groundlings and improv helped you land that gig? Remember this was the old days - October of ’93.) I seem to recall I did a lot of the peculiar dance moves and weirdo gestures then - things I would later do during the filming, and I think Quentin and the producers Lawrence Bender and Stacey Sher - who were at the audition, as well - thought it worked well.īy the time I got back to my apartment that afternoon, there was a voicemail on my answering machine from Quentin saying, “Congrats! You’re ‘The Gimp.'” (Yes. (This is also where several interior scenes were shot, including the basement pawn shop/”Gimp” scene, Jack Rabbit Slim’s, a couple of apartment interiors, etc.)īasically, Quentin and I did a silent scene in which he played The Gimp’s master and ordered me about the small office. SH: The brief (3-4 minute) audition was held in the low-rent “PF” production offices, located in a converted warehouse in Culver City, about a mile or two from Sony. PB: You had no dialogue - what was the audition process for that role? They were casting the rest of the movie, and Quentin - who enjoyed improvising with yours truly (I was a Groundling for years, and I’m now a proud alum) - asked if I’d like to come in and audition for The Gimp. (Even from the script, Pulp Fiction felt like it could be one of those once-in-a-decade movies, like The Godfather, Raging Bull, etc.) And, of course, by then, the main cast had already been set, and it was all looking very promising/exciting. We started hanging out - fellow movie nerds and all that.īy that point, Pulp Fiction was in pre-production, and Quentin had given me a copy of the script to read, and you could tell just from reading the incredible and complex screenplay - this was going to be an amazing movie. He was an occasional guest performer at the all-improv show at The Groundlings Theater on Thursday nights, and I was a regular performer. Stephen Hibbert: I actually knew Tarantino, at the time - around ’93. PremiumBeat: Did you know Tarantino, or were you submitted for the role? The most disturbing, outrageous, carnage scene set to surf band music you’ll ever see. Hibbert wasn’t new - he had been an actor and TV writer before Pulp Fiction - but he wasn’t going to turn down this opportunity, born from his stage comedy and the relationships he formed based on pure joy for the work. We sat down with Stephen Hibbert, who had a small-but-seminal part in perhaps one of the most influential films of the ’90s - Pulp Fiction. When you first get into this business, the prize might be a lead position above or below the line, but don’t discount the incredible opportunity to learn and build relationships while you dash for a cup of coffee for the crew or pull focus with a seasoned pro - or take a small acting role. The man behind the method, Constantin Stanislavski, once famously remarked that “There are no small parts, only small actors.” That’s not just true for actors. In this industry interview, we go behind the scenes with Steve Hibbert on Pulp Fiction‘s Most Famous Small Role: The Gimp. There is a standing stone at Tarbert and on the road between Feolin where the ferry arrives and Craighouse. At Inverlussa you can order tea on the beach with a walkie-talkie. You can climb the Paps of Jura which take four to eight hours. In Craighouse there is the Jura Distillery with tours and a shop. There are quite a few hills and steady climbs, but worth it for the fast and long descents at the other end. This is one of the most traffic-free roads I have experienced in Scotland, so it is a joy for cycling. The main settlement, Craighouse, is 8 miles from the ferry terminal. It is about 25 miles from where the ferry arrives at Feolin to Inverlussa where the road ends on Jura. The crossing takes one hour and the boat can take bicycles, but not vehicles. There is also the Jura Passenger Ferry that travels to Craighouse on Jura from Tayvallich on the west coast of mainland Argyll. To find out how to reach Islay by bicycle, train and ferry read about my journey in Biking and boating to Islay. Islay can be reached by ferry from Kennacraig. The crossing takes five minutes and the sailings are frequent. Jura is reached by ferry from Port Askaig on Islay. They turn their heads in unison, become as still as standing stones and stare straight ahead. I pictured them grazing on a hillside until they scent something approaching and suddenly stop and look up. I imagined them roaming the moors and climbing the Paps. I thought about the deer and wondered what they were up to. That evening we sat in the lounge with a glass of Jura single malt whisky and leafed through the back editions of “Jura Jottings”, the island newsletter. I felt like I was gliding along the moors, through the forests and skimming the coastline as I reached speeds of 25km/h. I would never forget my encounter with the deer and now I had this road of dreamy golden sunlight to myself. I smiled all the way back to the Jura Hotel. Her grave is at Kilchianaig, near to where I had my deer encounter. Perhaps Jura is a place that is easy to empty your head of cares and worries and explains why Mary MacCrain lived to the age of 128, in 1856. It was the perfect escapism that cycling can provide. I found it easy to shut out all the stressful things in my life and my focus was completely on pushing one peddle down after the other. I could easily clear my head because there was not much to look at. It was a lonely landscape of hilly, featureless grassland. I was on a quest to find Jura’s deer and whilst there was still road to cycle I was going to keep searching. The road leveled out and we rolled to a stop at another lichen decorated standing stone at Tarbert.Īt this point I decided I wanted to keep going and Paul’s thoughts turned to heading back to that beach and engrossing himself in a book. We plunged out of the forest to face an inlet which is totally green apart from the black and grey rocky shoreline and three white cottages. When the road started to descend there were crash barriers and tight twists and turns that made for exhilarating cycling using liberal application of brakes. There is a section of road that climbs up into thick forest with glimpses of sea. It was very tempting to stop and take advantage of an empty beach and rare Scottish sun, but the rest of the island beckoned. “I’d love to sunbathe there and read a book,” Paul called out. The road twists and turns along the shore and we were cycling alongside a perfect strip of sand. Tall shoots of grass separated the road from the shoreline and there were some upturned rowing boats. Leaving Craighouse there is a mix of single story cottages and modern housing facing the water. We dropped off our panniers, lightening our bikes for exploring the rest of the island. On one of the beds there was a cushion embroidered with a proud stag and the bathroom had shampoo from Spirited Soaps which contains a subtle amount of Jura whisky. When I unlocked the door we were immediately drawn to the view of the sea and a chain of tiny uninhabited islands. We made our way upstairs where there is a chandelier made from deer antlers and I clutched our room key that was tied to a piece of driftwood with the hotel name carved on it. When we checked-in at the hotel the barman explained, “In Jura there aren’t any streets, so we don’t have a street party. We noticed that the car park of the community hall was set out with tables, chairs and bunting. Talk with your provider before starting any natural supplements that may interact with medications or have unfavorable side effects. While turmeric is an ingredient in food, it's also considered a natural supplement. Despite claims to the contrary, no evidence suggests that turmeric can prevent or treat COVID-19. However, results have been conflicting, and some research shows that turmeric's effects aren't as significant in humans as in test tubes or animals. Promising evidence also suggests that turmeric may improve hay fever symptoms, reduce triglyceride levels and risk of heart disease, and improve knee pain from osteoarthritis. Findings show these compounds may reduce inflammation, although in doses much higher than amounts used in cooking. Many studies are looking into the health benefits of the main bioactive compounds in turmeric - turmeric and curcumin. It's frequently found in Indian (think curry) and Middle Eastern dishes. Turmeric root is related to ginger, and it can be dried, ground or used fresh. Now it's poised to be one of the top food trends in 2022. Details about these are also found Turmeric (Curcumin) Supplements Review, noted above.Since ancient times, turmeric, a golden-yellow spice, has been used in dishes and dyes, and as a health treatment. Special formulations of turmeric and curcumin supplements have been developed to increase absorption and bioavailability of turmeric compounds. Black pepper does not help with absorption. Although supplements such as fish oil also provide fat, taking such supplements with curcumin would probably help only a little (if at all) since the amount of fat in a fish oil capsule is only about 1 gram. For this reason, it's best to take turmeric and curcumin with a meal containing fats or oils (typically 15 grams or more). You will absorb little if turmeric is taken without fats or oils. You can get more details about this in the Turmeric (Curcumin) Supplements Review.īe aware that the biggest problem with turmeric is making sure that its compounds are absorbed from the gut. Keep in mind that this can also affect the breakdown of other compounds, including certain drugs. This allows higher levels of turmeric compounds to remain in the body (i.e., it increases its bioavailability), which may increase the effects of turmeric. Black pepper contains a compound, piperine, which inhibits the metabolic breakdown of turmeric compounds in the gut and the liver. Among a number of standouts is “Dis Summah,” a cold and reflective track that doubles as a warning shot: “Don’t make me catch a case dis summah,” advises the Flatbush, Brooklyn rapper, in his deep voice. On Halloween, Sleepy released his debut mixtape, Don’t Sleep, in which he makes the case that he can hold together a record on his own. Through tracks like “ Panic Part 2” and “ Panic Part 3,” a feeling emerged in the borough that Sleepy had a gift for storytelling similar to Sheff. If he is able to continue to release solid projects like “Still Sleepy,” then he may not have to anticipate storms, instead, he’ll have a warm hip hop bed prepared for him to stay as sleepy as he wants.A year ago, Sleepy Hallow had little music outside of a few collaborations with his childhood friend and Brooklyn drill figurehead Sheff G. These lines open up the “1999” song, and I can not avoid being fixated on the song as I anticipate what is coming in the next line. On the song, Sleepy raps about success in his career and how he’s able to whether any storm that may result from fame. One standout track that demonstrates this “1999.” Immediately, I am swept by the flow and the artist’s dexterity, which is entirely mesmerizing. With all 14 tracks on the album being intense and well packaged, Sleepy’s trap style goes all out to give his peers a run for their money. Yet, they stand out on their own through the outstanding production and mastering. In recognition of the excellent production execution on this album, I must applaud the producer Great John for putting together some killer beats on each of the songs that nestle tightly with Sleepy’s trap voice. With “2055” and “Scrub” as examples, both share the same storyline as they describe the artist’s experience with a woman. So, for Sleepy Hallow to execute that exemplifies rare talent?Īs I navigated my way through the whole album, I noticed most of the tracks shared a similar lyrical landscape. Yet, with the Jamaican – American rapper hailing from Brooklyn, one thing’s for sure is that the foundation that was laid by rap legends, such as Notorious B.I.G., Lil Kim, Jay-Z, Pop Smoke, and many others, gives any rapper much to stand on and live up to.ĭespite that pressure, to my surprise Sleepy Hallow stands on ten toes with his album containing only one feature - he collaborated with Sheff G on “Tip Toe (Bonus).” Nowadays, it’s an anomaly for a hip hop artist to write, rap, and release a full album without the comfort of features. Albums usually evolve from a specific motivation or theme that an artist is interested in at that particular time while in studio and consist of a couple of songs that can set the mood for you as a fan to relate to.įor Sleepy Hallow’s album, “Still Sleepy?” released on June 2, my expectations were neither extremely high or low. Then, there’s the anticipation of delving into the mind of the genius behind the mic. Most times, the result is a gumbo of musical texture and experimentation that satiates even those who are overwhelmed by the continuous music releases. When an artist on the rise talks about an album release, I can’t help but get excited about the possible collaborations the artist will feature.
